I recently went to a bull sale where 2 semi bulls were identified as being homozygous black yet both had white faces. Can this be right?

Yes, just so they sire black hided calves. The calves can have a blazed face. I still believe that it takes 10 calves that are black that are produced by cows that are not black to be considered homo-black. Also there are test that will confirm the bull being homo-black. If you need any more info on testing or how a bull qualifies check out the American Simmental Association web-site.

Thanks,
