Within about an hour we have 4 Home Depots and 6 lowes, depends on each location as to wich store is better. We lean towards lowes over Home Depot just a little, but both are very flawed at all the locations around here. For all of our main lumber business we work with the local company's.

Here in CA, HD is where you go when you want the things you bought installed for you. Once you buy it the labor force is standing out in front, just point to what you bought and flash the cash and it's a done deal. Lowes is a much nicer shopping experience for soccer moms.

That's interesting, here lowes is for the more serious people and Home Depot is more of the weekend folks. we also had lowes around here for years before There was any Home Depot stores, our first Home Depot didn't open until about 12 or 14 years ago.

Lowes started about 20 miles from where I am located. The old building is still there where it began. Lowes has always offered superior customer service compared to home depot around here. Home Depot has been around maybe 10 years or so in this area. I still drive to Sipe Wholesale Lumber for most stuff, better prices and family owned. They provide free delivery on most stuff as well.
