ok on the news they just said they were holding an emergency food drive to help the homeless beat the hot summer. this sounds extremely stupid to me for 2 reasons.

1. a food drive to beat the heat? how will food help them survive the extreme temperatures? sure the food will cook quickly out in the heat but wont help them survive. i guess this one is just a mistake on the writers part.

2. why encourage them to not work and live on the street. if i was getting handouts from people like this, why would i want to work for my food. hey, maybe after Bush's next term, if someone like kerry gets in office, i can ask the government for a free house and get one. hell all my homeless buddies can get a free house, at the expense honest taxpayers. get what im saying? anyone that wants a job badly enough could get one. even if its flippin burgers. anyone agree with me? personally i refuse to give money to people begging on the street corners, unless its firefighters raising money for some charity. i dont feel bad for the bums, its their own fault that their in that position. i just wanna get some more viewpoints on the topic.

anyways i blame the liberal media for supporting bums and living off of handouts, since they seem to 'care about everyone'

i dont know what that has to do with the thread, but ill answer it.

my bull has seen better days. had him dehorned and a nose ring put in yesterday so he has a bit of a headache. now i cant keep him from putting his head through the boards of the pen then bumping his head making it bleed. other than that, hes good. just like a big puppy

Up here they have a saying. Welfare is supposed to be a safety net, not a hammock. My ex-sister-in-law (who knows what possessed my brother to marry that girl) got pregnant at 15, dropped out of highschool, went on welfare, gave the baby up for adoption, got pregnant again at 17, kept the baby (girl). Got pregnant again at 24 with my brother while she was still on welfare. My brother married her. That lasted about 6 months and he ended up paying child support on both kids while she was back on welfare. The oldest girl dropped out of school and got pregnant at 16. Now, she's on welfare and my ex-sister-in-law is taking care of the new baby and on welfare. She's 38 and never held a job for any more than a couple of months. My tax dollars and my brother's child support go mostly to liquor and cigarettes. The kids are always poorly dressed and they don't eat properly and she gets to raise a whole other generation the same as her. I have no problem supporting someone in the short term if they are having a rough time or down on their luck but a life built around government assistance shouldn't be allowed. At very least if they are people are being paid they could be working on public works, mowing lawns, painting, building play structures for kids, picking up garbage, etc. Up here they call it workfare but all the left wingers seem to think people deserve a free ride. The leader of the NDP socialist party up here actually accused the Prime Minister of murder for not supplying housing for the homeless when a few of them died from exposure. Its just funny how some people think but I guess it goes along with this apologetic ,"its not my fault" culture that we live in.

I think that anyone who is on welfare should have to be implanted with norplant or some other type of birth control. Welfare has not only become a crutch for millions, but it fosters the breeding of ne'er do wells and other future democrats. The right to vote should be stripped from those that receive some form of non-contributory subsistence from the government. They are in essence voting dollars in their pockets at the expense of the pockets of every working individual.

I spend more money feeding welfare receipeints (in the form of taxes) than I do feeding my cattle. Now that's a shame.

When the original 13 colonies were formed people who could not make ends meet were auctioned off in the town sqaure to the lowest bidder for labor.

The mormons will help pay bills, feed and cloth a family but it comes at a price. They are expected to pay back to the system and when they go shopping someone is with them to monitor their purchase. Everything is paid back to the system once you are back on your feet.

Hand up not a hand out

I like that scripture Hillbilly. Lets just not confuse giving handouts as helping someone. Teaching them how to get OFF of welfare and support themselves is better help.

Up here in Canada, our Conservative party has promised a tax refund for working families that have children. I agree with that. The first thing the socialist NDP party did was jump in and say that the tax break wouldn't help parents on welfare and so that would be a bad thing. I think it might motivate some people young parents to get off their a$$ and get a job to get the tax rebate. Taxes up here are quite high. Tomorrow is tax freedom day (The first day in the year that we are actually working for ourselves instead of to pay taxes). Coincidentally, it is also the day of our Federal election. Wish us the best of luck.
