Heifers Sucking on Bred Cows

Bought bred heifers and bred cows out of the same herd at auction. Don't know if they're related or not. Most of the heifers due to calve one or two months after the majority of the cows. Discovered a couple of weeks ago that the heifers were sucking on the cows as they started to bag out. (And the cows weren't resisting.) Seperated them as a short term solution. Since then, two cows and one heifer have calved and we put them together in a good sized pen yesterday. Still worried that the heifer that calved will try to drain the cows. Would appreciate any thoughts, experiences, insights or advice.
Best regards,
Smallhouse

You got a mama daughter had it happen a couple times. The old cow will kick the heifer off when the new one comes along.Might want to watch the heifer pretty close she may not want to mother hers.If she gives trouble put her in a head shute to allow calf to nurse in a few days she will take it.
