If you are looking for moderate size replacement females(1100 - 1200lbs at maturity), no matter the breed, what weight would you be looking for at about 15 months of age?

I think it does matter about the breed. Some breeds grow faster so they will weigh more at 15 months, but not necessarily be bigger at maturity than slower growing cattle. And if heifers are creep fed, they'll weigh more than those raised on grass. Just something to mull over....

I was just interested in what other people thought as a basis for comparison, we just weighed 2 heifers (one owned by me and one owned by the ranch I work for) about 15 mo. Both are show heifers and have been fed well, but not too fat. Neither are the biggest in their classes.

Weighed on June 8, 2005
Ranch's: D.O.B. 2/22/2004 904lbs
Mine: D.O.B 3/11/2004 835lbs

For reference, our Angus heifers are fed pretty good during development. They'll weigh about 900-1000 lbs at 15 months when we start breeding. Their "brothers" will generally have 12-1400 lbs Adjusted Yearling weights, but they're fed a lot harder than we feed the heifers.

I'm glad to see that our top heifers are not too far off from the weight of your Angus. We just time to get more to match the natural muscling and WPD of our top performers.

Speaking of bulls, one of the bulls we weighed yesterday was exactly 1800lbs. He was 2 years old around March 15, I guess that makes him almost 28 months. Just shows the variation within the breed, as I know people using 5+ year old herdsires that weigh less than 1600lbs.
