Heifer Breeding

Has anyone heard of breeding hereford heifers at 500-600lbs? Read an article and was wondering whether this was possible even using a easy calve angus bull?

That is too early to breed ANY breed.Have them checked by the vet to see if they are mature.I would bet not at that weight.If you expose them to a bull you are asking for trouble.Murray Grey heifers are very precocious and will breed at 7 months if you let them....but is still not a good idea. ;-) :cboy:

Breed at 15 months makes them a 2 year old when they calve.

That is like a teenage girl being pregnant, a teenage girl won't have the goods when her child is born either will a 500-600 pound heifer.

I use 15 months or 70% of adult body weight which in my case is usally around 15 months anyway. ;-)
