head gate head chains

Does anyone have advice/opinion on which head chains (or something similar) are best to immobilize head movement while the cow is in the head gate? I'm getting frustrated when giving shots in the shoulder area and they lunge forward. I'm afraid one of these days a needle is going to break off! Help! Thanks much.

It is wise for you to give this level of attention to the safety of the animal and not to mention.... YOURSELF ! Safety chains on the headgate when adjusted and used properly will keep the cow from moving around too much and causing a very unsafe condition with a needle. You as the care-giver are left with the responsibility of taking safety precautions to prevent these unnecessary injuries. Thanks for thinking of the safety issues at hand. Sometimes; unfortunately, safety measures get lost in our busy lives.
