Hi, I am all new to the cattle feeding, I have a Limousin heifer w/ calf ( she is due early June). I am feeding her free choice hay alfalfa and brome. Ok, I know nothing about grass hay. I hear it is more easily digestiveable. Can someone tell more about grass hay? What should I be feeding my heifer? Thanks

Grass hay is easier on the rumen, but has less nutrition than alfalfa. A mixture is ideal. If your heifer is looking good then she is likely getting enough volume and nutrition. After she calves she will need double the nutrition to milk and breed back, if she starts to lose weight, increase the alfalfa or suppliment with a little grain.
Jason Trowbridge
Southern Angus Farms
Alberta Canada
