Hay Profits

Help Support CattleToday:

On 300 acres of alfalfa I have 5 times that equipment. 5 newer 5070 hayliner balers, 4 tractors , a self propelled rotary cutter and a back up cutter , and help! Farming isn't as easy as your calculations. You only get as many cuttings as the weather allows, ALL equipment breaks even brand new equipment. Be ready for repair bills. I have never used an accumulator or grappler. We run NH balewagons.

I think your fertilizer figure is low for the production you expect. To make 2 tons per acre it takes 100-40-85 out of the ground. That is is about 475 lbs per acre of 21-8-17. Bermuda is a big user of potash. It is like a race horse, if you don't feed it , it will not run very far.
