Does anyone have a wild guess as to the range of protein in Bluestem hay? Seems like I saw somewhere that it was around 6 to 12% -- about the same as dormant bermudagrass???
We are feeding round bales of Bluestem and supplement with 2-3 lbs of 20% range cubes per head, and our cattle are maintaining condition.
Being in Texas Panhandle and like most everyone else in Western 1/2 of USA-- there hasn't been hardly any rain past 6 months and native pastures are essentially used up.
As result, we found round bales of Bluestem for $28 a bale (about 1,000# ea)--we had to load and haul...
