Hauling baler home

Help Support CattleToday:

I towed my NH 320 baler 2 hours home.. I put good tires and greased the wheel bearings before I drove though.

If I was to do it again, I'd weld an offset receiver hitch on my truck though, this thing had a 6ft wide pickup so it hung out the right side a LONG way, moving it over 18" or so would have made for a much less stressful trip.. I had to really hug the center line to get onto bridges and such

I believe that 8'-6" is the max width before the load is considered a "wide load". On some smaller roads, the max is 8'. I recall that the paperwork that came with my cattle trailer indicated that its 102" axles may not be legal on some smaller roads. When you get into wide loads, the official requirements include wide load signs front and rear. We hired a guy to haul a dozer with a 10' blade. He agreed to haul it IF we agreed to pay any fines for the wide load. Traffic guys stopped and held the load until we went and purchased wide load signs. Permits may be required (revenue for the state). When you get to the 12' or so range, escorts might be required. I am guessing that you will be about 9 feet wide. Probably best to plead ignorance, haul during low traffic, stay off interstates and narrow bridges and away from weigh stations and take back roads and hope for the best.
Might want to use four chains instead of straps. My fear would be the tongue shifting side to side. Might want to screw some 2x6's to the trailer bed each side of the tongue to keep it from moving.
How you gonna get it on the trailer? If you back it on with a tractor, think about the rear of the baler being lower than the trailer. Rear may hit trailer before the tires get to the ramps. Low trailer and low hitch height would be best. May have to get creative on that. Once saw someone build a dirt ramp up to trailer height because of that. We will need pictures. Video even better. Good luck.
Going next Saturday will keep u all posted!

I get all set to pick up the baler I got money out of the bank got a trailer lined up I'm mentally prepared to load it I texted the guy to keep touch with him and he sold the baler out from under me! Needless to say I'm very hot!

Want to give me his phone number and address I can handle for you. 😁🤡

We have had that to happen or even been half way there and the person text "sold it". Alls I can say is it wasn't meant to be for whatever reason. God was watch out for you for whatever reason. Yes it most definitely sucks. Hopefully a better deal will come along for you. Don't let it ruin your day some people don't have any morals you can't help them.

Was just something cause I never get prepared I wait till the day of to get things together so this time a week in advance I get ready and then this. Is what it is but still frustrating a man's word doesn't mean anything anymore it seems

Definitely understand. I learned not to get my hopes up until it's ours and to expect it not to be as advertised.
I've gone to buy a dirt bike before they had post pictures it looked good. Drove 4 hours got there it was in pieces scattered all over the people's shop. For the right price would have been okay but not advertised as a whole running bike. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Pictures can be deceiving. 😂I was to hot to even ask questions I just left. Now it's humorous in a way. Just show my thinking of a picture of a bike in one piece running was exactly somebody's pipe dream. 😬 I should have ask to hear it run. Or tried to ride it. 😆🤦🏽‍♀️🤡

I bought 30 of a man's 50ac that was going through a divorce. Told him we will get the money together for the other 20 within a month. Shook hands and took off back home. 2 hours later we got a call from his ex wife that he sold it. It all worked out, we have a better place with more land in a nicer town. I nowuse that 30 for rental property.... it all happens for a reason.

I was brought up the same way, a man's word is only given in honor...
As my grandfather always said,
Don't bother to shake a man's hand and look him in the eye, unless you will follow through with that promise.

I miss the days when a deal was a deal. shake hands or a phone call that stated that you wanted it was all it took. seems like society isn't as trustworthy anymore.

Last year I was going to pick up a milling machine, made plans the night before with the guy, texted him the morning I was leaving (5 hour drive), I get a text when I'm half way saying he can't sell it for another week but I can look at it... d@mn I was mad. we've had stuff sold from under us as well

Had that happen to me on a Deere 12 row planter a couple years ago. Hard to understand how some guys just don't feel their word is worth anything anymore.

I never feel anything belongs to me until money has been exchanged. If it is a long ways away and I really want it I will drive. If I am not prepared to haul it home I will pay for it and have them write up a pretty good receipt that includes a statement about when I will return to pick it up.

I agree.
If you have a solid deal it's one thing.
If you're going to look at it for the first time and probably buy it, but someone else shows first with cash. That's different
