On July 3rd, I had mowed the lawn, which is harder on me than it might sound, since I live on a hillside and have to use a walk behind mower..way too steep to use a rider or zero turn. Then did all the weedeatin and edging so I was worn out, but had stuff to do, obligations for the 4th.
My (and wife's) 4th of July began very early in the darkness. After finishing preparations around 1am, we finally went to bed for a little while, then back up at 4:30 am to roll up a few dozen breakfast burritos, load bunting and other stuff, a cooler of ice and take off for the drive over to Belton by dawn's early light to help get the Louis W. Qualls Marine Corps League Texas Detachment #1249 4th of July parade entry ready. My right hip was killing me from the previous day's mowing ops and mostly I just sat and watched as the rest decorated the trailer and our lead vehicle. We're a small group as this is a US Army area being so close to Fort Hood and not many Marine veterans here but we're used to being The Few The Proud. The ride thru Belton on the trailer was great, with throngs of people yelling and applauding as we passed. The loudspeakers placed along the way announced us as "Not as lean, not as mean but still US Marines" and this state loves their Marine Corps, even in an Army town.
The TV stations were there and live streamed the whole parade. It's on youtube. A big parade, with over 200 entries and the crowd was estimated at over 30,000.

Then wife and I went over to Black Bear Diner for lunch, then we all attended the 4th of July ceremony at Belton VFW, since that organization allows us to use their facility for our monthly meetings. By the time wife and I got back to Copperas Cove, we were flat tuckered out, but it was a great 4th of July.
