Have a cow that is 7-9 years that started loosing hair late this winter early spring. Didnt thing much of as it is not uncommon when mudballs start getting rubbed off showing patchy hair loss. She was poured at least a month ago & has been on pasture for a few weeks now & the hair loss is getting worse, this cow in darn near bald. There are no others in the herd doing this, what could be going on? TIA

sometimes it's best to involve your vet. i think that's what i'd do in this case.

Lice? Did you use a generic pour-on? Grab a handful of hair close to a bald spot and if it comes out effortlessly, it's probably lice. Put the hair in a zip lock bag, next morning you should see the lice on the inside of the baggie. Vet just told me 2 days ago the generics ar'nt working on some things, even tho the main ingredient is Ivermectin. They won't get rid of the nemotodiras [sp] worm, so I re-poured with Eprinex. Expensive tho.
