Yes starts a little slow but gets really good.
Had a marine uncle that landed on Iwo and Okinawa I have heard him say a thousand times Iwo was heII and Okinawa is where heII went.
It certainly depicts that.

Please read the story, especially the latter part. Some his actions and injuries in getting off battlefield was
not in movie because Mel Gibson was afraid they wouldn't be believed.
