There are several "gurus" that seem to be selling something. Just wondering if any are legitimate. Have been listening a lot to Wally Olson here recently on podcasts and it seems like he is saying a lot of words without actually explaining anything. Nothing against the guy maybe you have to actually pay to go to one of his classes to really get into it. Navigating what works and what's doesn't work is a heck of a deal. Greg Judy would be another example. Really enjoy his YouTube videos but I think it's more good for him than for people new to farming that buy into his "brand" recently selling the corriente south poll mix that others own for a crazy price. Warren would like that and nothing wrong with making money, but are people so sold on a persona that they would buy anything from them at an inflated price? Kind of rambling at this point.

I hate what is happening with Corrientes, now. I started trying to buy up an additional 400 about a month ago, and everything solid colored is $750 and up. Found a group of 30 2-4 yr olds, 1st quarter bred to a registerd Ultrablack. $1150 a head if you take all! Hard to find any open, too. I can take pairs with a damned Charolais calf now... have a man that has started his own direct selling deal, and he said he would buy them and feed them to butcher for private sales. What is so bad is the owners either say "bred back to Char" or" running with Angus and Char bulls". I can't loose a year or more fooling with Char calves, or "angus" calves, that might be black and polled or might not.
This new Wagyu thing is running up the price of Corrientes big time. I have bought about 80 in the past month, but had to buy 160 to get the black ones I want. I'd buy an equal number of red ones and black ones, and sell the reds to my Wagyu guy for $1375. That way I have nothing or next to nothing in the black cows, but he can't take 400, so that is gonna run out soon.

Looks like you aren't selling them as bargain cows either…

It's all your fault Warren. :) You just had to keep telling people what a good deal the Corrientes are and
what money makers they are. Evidently folks have been reading and believing what you are telling them.
If that impresses you, you should see how high beef cattle have gotten. 😄

What has happened is, people have been buying them and have found out for themselves that they can make more profit with zero to no inputs. And still can at these prices. If I bought those mentioned above for $1150 a head, they gonna wean a $1200 heifer or a $1400 steer at 6 months from that Ultrablack bull. But I liked it a whole lot better when I was buying them for $250, $300, $350..a whole lot better! Once my Wagyu guy has bought all he wants, I can still make the same money on the red one's calves. They will have black calves from the bulls we are using. Last week when he came got the red ones I had bought, he mentioned that he might come up with a program like the deal we have with Mike, to breed our reds to his Aukasi bulls, and him get the calves at weaning.

Best I could find this week, was thirty 4 yr old ,solid black Corrs, 7 and 8 mos bred to a reg black Angus, $1550.00!!!! I could have bought a reg Angus pair for that at Calhoun last week. Next group I found was 23 solid black and solid red Corrs...not guaranteed bred..... but advertised as " been running with red Angus and black Angus bulls, $1500 if all taken"! I didn't buy either group. One group was in Arkansas and one in Missouri. With diesel these last weeks getting into the $2.50's and $2.60's around here, I could afford to just go get cattle at the border these days, these days, but there aren't any coming out of Chihuahua anymore. Not for the last couple of months. They don't have the Santa Teresa sale in New Mexico anymore, or least ways it isn't online anymore. But I have been watching a sale in Arizona, and $900-$1100 prices for solid colored Corriente is about the standard. and spotted and line back etc, are $750 or higher. So, I think I am NOT going to be getting up another 400 head very soon, or very quickly. I guess we will just let our new 400 acre Bermuda/Alfalfa fields just grow a little more, and buy up what cattle I can find at a reasonable rate. And might go ahead and buy up some more Brahma cows like we originally planned on doing.
