Have plenty of hay made late. probably more like straw. was wondering how much grain a day I need to grow about 1 1/2 pound aday. will five pounds corn,1 pound soymeal and mineral work?

They need to eat 2% of body weight a day in feed. If you're concerned about hay nutrition, suplement with good feed. 5lbs of corn will replace 9lbs of hay. so if your trying to grow 700 to 800 lbs heifers before breeding then they need to eat about 15lbs per day. I like soybean meal because its pretty high in protien and nutrients, same with corn. I think you'd be good with 5 lbs corn maybe 2lbs soy bean meal and free choice mineral with access to plenty of hay for when they clean up the corn. If after sum time youre not seeing the results you want, up the corn a lb or so. But don't let them get fat. That'll make it hard on the heifers when they calves. You want to keep heifers in BCS of 5 to 6
