What is up with this. I hear they are talking about taxing us $86 a cow for greenhouse gas. Does anyone know about this?

There have been a couple of threads about it the last week or so

Only what we've heard on news and from other sources. IMO I think this "might" be another push by rabid liberal activists that have a jaundiced view of World economics and where food comes from. Most animals (2 & 4 legged) are carnivores...if the activists attempt to successfully pass legislation to tax our basic food sources, then as they say on the news, many producers will either go out of business (or) the cost of meat/milk products will skyrocket to cover their expenses. Global Warming IMO is NOT a scare...it is real...the scientists have data to prove it. The forecast "disaster" might take 10 years, 100 years, or 1000 years...anyone's guess.

The only "good" news on the above is that allegedly livestock producers with fewer than 50 animal units would be exempt from the tax. But, that could very well change if the issue gets legislated.

We don't want foreign countries to furnish us with our basic needs...the USA can produce anything we and the world needs to survive. Even Texas can do it alone...lol...for a limited source of basic products.

Since the "experts" have officially acknowledged that the USA is in a Recession, 2009 purports to be a very interesting year! Stop using credit cards, stockpile cash, get back to nature and produce as many products as you can...meat, vegetable gardens, etc.

On a sidebar...the Amish may have been right along..."avoid the English way of life, produce own products, make own clothes, etc... ;-)

No right thinking person would think it was a good idea.

We may need to worry.

SPARKS VOICES OPPOSITION TO EPA LIVESTOCK FEE PROPOSAL Darryal Ray
(334) 613-4187
November 26, 2008

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Ron Sparks, commissioner of Alabama's Department of Agriculture and Industries, has criticized a proposal by the Environmental Protection Agency to charge mandatory permit fees in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

"The EPA would, in effect, put our livestock producers and dairy farmers out of business," said Sparks. "At a time when we are becoming more and more reliant on other countries for our food, we should be looking for ways to help farmers, not punish them for producing the food we put on the table for our families."

The proposal would affect any farm or ranch with more than 25 dairy cows, 50 beef cattle or 200 hogs by requiring permit fees based on tonnage of greenhouse gas emissions, which is based on emitting 100 tons or more of carbon per year.

According to the American Farm Bureau, the fee and/or tax would result in about $175 per dairy cow, $87.50 per head of beef cattle and $20 for each hog annually.

Sparks, who is president of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA), also stated that NASDA will be submitting comments to the EPA opposing this proposal. The commissioner also urges all producers to make a public response at http://www.epa.gov/lawsregs/howto/index.html to the EPA by the Nov. 28, 2008 deadline.

Producers can also voice their opposition by visiting the Action Alert area of http://www.AlfaFarmers.org.

was never seriously considered and has no chance of being proposed to Congress as reality

This is scary enough in itself. Never seriously considered? That says it WAS actually considered. I guess they figure they best take our guns first.

i think we will loss this battle as well as the war.
you have to admit there is no way we can beat peta, sierra club and with our new president elect Barack Hussein Obama backing the epa on this deal.

this will put the independant cattle producer out of business.
you will see big cattle corporations ( i.e. tyson foods) owning cattle and you will be working for them and at some point you will see the goverment take control just like whats going to happen in the financial market , the auto builders and at some point everything will be controled by the goverment.

do your reseach on Barack Hussein Obama and his marxist ties.
we have problems folks and i think it's too late to combat.

Obama hopes to reboot US image among Muslims

Disclaimer: I found this by accident but found it interesting. Could this be part of the answer of the future?

Wonder how long it takes the cow to starve to death after you shut down its means to change forage into nutrients needed to sustain itself.

I've said it before, " I'm glad I'm 50 and not 15". If the stupid jerks that have been put in charge of running this country want to destroy our means to feed ourselves in the same manner they have destroyed the means to achieve what was once an American dream and livelyhood. So be it, as long as the first to starve remember who it was that put them in power. Hopefully I am old enought that I will not live long enough to see the end product of these liberal socialist people that have been put in charge.

God Bless America. Hope that is still possible.
