GREAT PLAINS NTS2609

Help Support CattleToday:

I basically did that this year. Not in one pass but light disk, broadcast seed and packed it. Not what I would call successful. Spotty results at best. Not the first time I tried it. This is why I am looking at a small no till.
i've done that several times with fantastic results. no-tilling grass seed is a gamble. bare ground and if you get some rain quick enough so the seed doesn't keep getting deeper then you usually do pretty good.

I no tilled some OG into some alfalfa 2 years ago and very little came up. This year the entire field is covered in it.

The best seeder for grass seeding would be a brillion seeder. and they have those in 3 pt. as well. might want to check them out.

I have a friend who use to sell for a dealer next door to the sale barn. He bought a Brillion 6 footer from them this last winter. It cost him $20,000. I can go look at his and talk to the dealer. I hadn't done it yet as this Great Plains is $2,500 cheaper. But it is on my list.

If I had to get a rain after seeding it could be a long wait. We only get about 10 inches a year. But the hay meadows have flood irrigation. I have got plenty of water on it shortly after seeding.

No till will give you worlds better results than the Brillion in my experience on sod. The 3 pt. is very handy in small plots. That is why I bought mine. Most of my customers are seeding small horse paddocks. Also very portable, I pull the whole rig up on a gooseneck and travel.

This one works similar to a Brillion except the front roller tines rough the ground up some and the back roller packs the seeds.

that one looks really nice. looks like it'd do a perfect job and a better design than a brillion.

i haven't looked at them, but they have these cheaper food plot drills by tar river that are like 8 grand. might work pretty good if you aren't doing a lot.

Lucky, have you been able to use yours yet? I just bought one very similar. Mine is a 2021 Great Plains NTS 2611, got less than 100 hours on it.

I had emailed the company located in Kansas who made that add on stuff to the Great plains drill. Asked how easy is it to remove, value, etc. They replied asking for a picture. It is 70+ miles away so I copied off the dealers web site. I wasn't sure how well they came through so I included the dealers name and location so they could look at the web site. I never heard back from them. I got busy and didn't follow up. Then the fire and I got really busy and never thought about the drill. Earlier this week I was headed to town and I swear I saw that drill on a trailer headed east on the freeway. I wonder if it is headed to Kansas.

Haven't had the chance to use the drill yet. Hopefully we'll do some winter planting. You get a good looking drill. Ours doesn't have a acre meter but the paint isn't worn off the tine rollers yet.

Thanks Lucky! What are you going on plant, ryegrass?

Probably ryegrass and oats for the yearlings. It's looking like we might have another long stretch at work this fall so may not get it done. If you get to use yours please let us know how things go. I've read mixed reviews on the seeding rate accuracy and am a little nervous about that.

I sure will !
