All you that sell only grass fed or grass with some grain, what weight do you sell to individual buyers? Is there multiple weights that a grass or grass/grain steer or cow can be sold for slaughter?

You can sell them when ever but we always go by whether they are fat or not adn have fat deposits by their tail and their brisket is developed and not loose any more.

What do your's usually weigh when they get to this condition? I was thinking of marketing steers around 900-1000 pds. Can you market heifers as well as steers? Is there a big difference between taste in steers and heifers?

Well it depends on the type of cattle like an average angus steer grain fed will finish at 1200 to 1300 pounds. There isn't a difference between taste i na steer or heifer.

An Angus heifer will finish earlier but at a lighter weight then an Angus steer. The steer might put on pounds faster but the heifer will put on finish before him.
