Thanks Goatlady for correcting me...it is, indeed, called Supplemental Security Income... I was a bit ticked off by the very personal insults Texan and a few others have said.
Nah, computers isn't my things. Sitting in front of the computer makes me depress...I am an up and go type of guy. If I was not disabled, I would not be sitting here telling you this... I don't get much out of SSI, just enough to cover the cost of living, and pay the monthly bills. Y'alls on here have the extra earnings that I don't get....most of you on here got a fancy, schmacy new truck with A/C in it, a nice house and property...livestock..everything I dream of! I don't sit around all day on my ass...I do get up and do something......anything including doing dishes (yuck). Don't worry my VR (Vocational Rehabilitation) counselor and my family said I should go into computers but it is not my interests. Do me a favor (this is a problem for all type of people), loook in your classified ads and count how many jobs is willing to train a person....most of the jobs wants previous experiences.....even McDonalds does! I will not embarrass myself with an low ending jobs like McDonalds or grocery store as a bagger. I did find one employer that is willing to train me (whoo hoo!).... even if I do get hire and start working again, it does not mean I am off Social Security (thank God because I need the medical insurance!). If I make more than (I think) 2,000 a month from work, I am off SSI but I am forever in your system because I will still on Medicaid (unless an employer is willing to buy medical insurance for me and his/her other employees..ALL businesses great or small should have medical coverage for all employees!). For two years, I have filled out applications for jobs (including move to another state in hope to increase my chances to find a job and it worked!) but too many employers are too chickenshit to hire any disabled persons (remember all the lawsuits against Walmart on discriminations on disabled people?) I want you do another favor for me? Go to numerous of busineeses (I don't care which ones) and count how many disabled people are working... You will find a very small percentage that are working. I once read in an article that about 70 % of disabled people on SSI DO want to work! If you don't like disabled people sitting on your tax dollars, HIRE THEM! You will still have to pay your taxes on them anyways! So whats the difference? anyone out there willing to hire me and provide training (and one month rent free)?
Yes I am getting an education (mentioned this a dozen times), I spent five years in community college, I am on my first year in University... I plan to major in Agribusiness but after hearing from many rude people on here, I will change it!
Oh yes, it is true I don't pay any taxes it is because the GOVERNMENT has already done it...what i get monthly is for the cost of living adjustments..pay rent (no I don't live with my parents, I haven't lived with them since I was 19), pay bills, buy groceries, etc....) I have learned to save my money wisely therefore I could afford an computer and internet connection... It is not enough, I don't make an yearly earnings like most of you have.....i am well under the $10,000 a year bracket.
I didn't want to share all this information but if I didn't, you would be on my ass for months on end about it...
BTW, when I moved to Oregon, my agent asked if I want to be on food stamps....what was my answer? No. Because there is families (lazy or not) that have kids and they need it more than I do...it also save YOUR tax dollars on me... See? I am courteous enough.
