GM 2500 Gas Review

Help Support CattleToday:

Buy them already depreciated then they don't really go down in value expecially in the last few years.
I have done it both ways. You are not factoring in all the real costs that come with buying vehicles that are already depreciated.

Plus, the used market has has been outrageous since 2020 and the cost per mile of ownership is not actually cheaper on a lot of the used vehicles.

I break every thing down on cost per mile to operate to get the best value, not the cheapest product.

Go back and read how many vehicles I own. I have a $1k F150 farm truck too. I see both costs.

I break down cost per mile as well. With the miles I drive I've yet to be able to make a new vehicle pencil out used wins by a large margin for me.

In the past, I kept scrolling past this thread, pausing only long enough to make sure it didn't actually say "LM 2500 Gas Review"......................

Last night, I decided to take my ole lady's new ( to us..it is a 2019) Nissan Pathfinder to a gig. Easier to load guitar and amp in back of that , than in the little back seat of my ext cab Frontier. Liked to never figured out how to cut it on..it has a push button start and a key fob. Well , once I got it started, the seat started sliding up, pinning me against the steering wheel, The outside mirrors starting turning to where I couldn't see out of them. ( Came to find out later, that the damned thing automatically adjust to her, and she is about half my size.) Couldn't get the doors unlocked to try to escape, because apparently you can't unlock them while the thing is running. Finally figured out to shut it off, then I was so cramped up I had to be a contortionist to get a hold of the door handle to open it, so I could roll out of the thing head first to the ground. I got up and went in the house to get her. She came out with my keyfob, and I was able to get it cranked, adjust the seat, mirrors etc, and started to leave. Well, what I thought was a huge radio in the dash, turned out to be a screen that showed cameras every where. When I got backed up and put it in drive, that changed to some kind of GPS or something, that started hollering at me about stuff. Finally found a way to cut the volume off, but never did figure out how to get it to the radio. It was night, and every time I tried to use the turn signals, it would make the headlights bright, and start the windshield wipers going and squirting water. Could not figure out how to put the defrost on, or cut the heat off. She uses the heater if it ever gets below 75 degrees. The fan was blowing wide open, and I found what I thought was the adjustment, but what it did was change the thermostat for my side of the car. And the damned thing has leather seats, that has a heater in them! I thought the seats were on fire at first, then I remembered the guy we got it from telling us it has heated and air- conditioned seats, but I never did find a way to turn them off. Probably on the turn signal lever: Heck, everything else is! I won't ever drive that thing again!

When I got home, I decided I would write some specs for a revolutionary new idea for the pick up truck market. I am going to send it to the big 3, and see if anyone there has enough sense to realize the market potential for it. They would have a hard time keeping them in stock, if someone would make it.

This truck would be a single cab, single rear wheel, 4wd drive model. It would have manual locking hubs, and the transfer case would be manual, on the floor. For models with an automatic transmission, the shift lever would be on the right side of the column, with NOTHING else on the lever itself! Blinker lever would be on the left side, and again, the blinkers is all it would work. I would put the little triangle shaped vent window back in the doors, too. Why they ever took those out I will never be able to understand. On the dash, on the left side of the steering column, would be a knob. You pull it half way out to cut on the parking lights, all the way out to cut on the head lights, and turn it to the left to cut on the interior lights. On the dash on the right side of the steering column, would be another knob. You turn it to the right one click for slow windshield wipers, and two clicks for fast., right beside it would be a little push button, that you push to squirt water on the windshield. It would squirt til you quit pushing the button. To the right of that on the dash, would be a radio. Knob on the left of it would cut it on and adjust volume. Knob to the right would be the channel changer, There would be two lines of numbers on the radio...representing AM and FM stations. There would be a red vertical line that moved as you adjusted it, that showed you what station you were on. You could make either knob the one you push to go from AM to FM. Under that would be the heat/AC. It would have a vertical lever on the left that cut it on and adjusted fan speed. A horizontal lever that would go to the 3 positions: Heat, Defrost and AC. Under that would be another horizontal lever that would adjust the temp, designated by a line that is red for heat to the left, all the way to blue for AC to the right.
No idiot lights or digital displays. On the dash above the steering column would be a speedometer that had the numbers and a red line that that showed your speed, Beside it would be a tachometer, again a clock looking thing with numbers and a red line that showed your rpms. Speaking of clocks, there would be one that had minute and hour hands, and a little bitty knob in the middle to set and adjust the time. Bedside that an actual oil pressure gauge and a fuel gauge. Seat would be a bench, with a fold down console you could let down,. or fold it up into back of the seat. AND...and ashtray with a cigar lighter on the dash! Floor mats would be rubber. Options available would be cloth seats or vinyl seats, and automatic or manual transmission. 1/2 ton models would have the option of short or long wheel base... 6 1/2' bed or 8' bed.

I would buy 3 today if they sold them ;like that!!

You will need to include a free 5 day course on "How to Drive Work Truck". " little triangle shaped vent window back in the doors",
wasn't that a "wing" ?

I'm ready to invest in building them. Where do I sign up? One thing... I don't want any of them to come in black...:)

The new trucks have buttons for each person's setting. You set your seats, mirrors, etc all to let's say #1. Your wife sets hers to #2. When you get in you press your button and it all moves for you.

Back in the day, my driving settings were 1 and 2 would lay the seat back flat and slide it back for a nap. 🤣 As my son got older and was learning to drive he took over setting 2 for when he was driving.

I'm really big on the stick shift on the transfer case.

Warren last I checked Ford still made a truck pretty close to what you describe. Do we want power windows and locks on this rig or are we going old school roll up windows and no locks?

Personally, I prefer the roll up windows and manual locks. They work with a dead battery, and no electronics to replace! I have seen 2wd drive XLs at the dealerships before, with manual windows and manual locks, rubber floor mats, etc. But all of the other improvements I mentioned, can't be ordered anymore.

Instead of trying to get one of the big three to build it, I thought I might try to find the company that makes the damned seat belt dingers. Those things NEVER burn out or quit working at all! LOL. A few years ago, I parted out a '98 Ford Explorer I had bought about 10 years ago. I had paid $1500 for it. Droves it about 3 years before the two timing chains went out on it,. It was the 4.0 V6. I sold the transmission, the interior, the wheels, and other parts for about 3 times what the truck's costs me, then sold it at the scrap steel place for $450. Before I did, I cut the male ends off all the seat belts, and I keep them in the seat belts of my trucks so I don't have to hear the darn things!

I've had three friends killed because they weren't wearing seat belts.
