Where are you located?
He's like 500 miles north of Havre, Mt. in Alberta.

ga.prime, thanks for filling in. Not quite 500, closer to 250, Snowy Owl country for sure. :cboy:

From the photo it is hard to get an idea of the size of these Owls, they are about a foot and a half tall, with a huge wing span.

Great pic, I love all your pics, the series you did of "walk in the snow" was great. I'll jump on the great dog band wagon...... 8 miles you should have split the steak with the work horse :D .

You said a "male" owl, are the females darker?

Thank for posting all the pics!

Thank you Alan, yes the females are flecked or speckled with black for camouflage during ground nesting in the Arctic.

If I can get a good shot of a female I will post it. :)

This is the third time I have looked at this photo, beautiful bird - unfathomable expression on its face. Are his feet covered in feathers or are they just tucked in?

He is gorgeous , what a great shot Dylan !!!

What kinda of camera are you using ?

Thanks HD. Yeah he's a beauty.

A JVC 45X Everio video camera, use it mostly for the stills, it has a good zoom.

Dylan how far away from you was he?? You can dang near see him breathing.

Around 25 yards. Got lucky, that is the best of my shots after many, many years of trying. :)
