Get rid of a stump

My tried and true method-----Place the open end of a 55 gallon drum over the stump. Open the bottom (now the top) half the way around, and pry it up at a 90 degree angle. Get a hot fire going in the drum. Refuel it a couple of times, the. Just leave it alone. Oh yea, you gotta shoot the drum a few times with a .22 near the bottom so it will get air. It will sit there, and draw like a lot bellied stove, consuming the stump.

Draft is key. So we would dig under to reach hole(s) drilled down from the top of the stump. Screwed some old stove pipe to the top of the stump over the min draft hole. Then added a little charcoal under the stump before setting up lawn chairs and some beverages.
The 55 gallon drum sounds way too easy.

Dynamite would be fun, but this stump is about 300' in front of our house, so I'm thinking it might take out the windows and crack the
basement. Gotta go with fire, as soon as I get a chance.

You said something about using gas. Please don't. A friend of mine had to go to the hospital a few years ago because of using gas to start a fire. Use diesel instead.
