Gate Watching

Does anyone have other ideas for eliminating having someone "watch gates." When we are doing work in our pens there is an employee who sits outside of the pens in case cattle decide to come out the open gate. The gates are left open for dump trucks to go in and out. It seems like such a waste of an employees time to sit on the bunk and get a tan, yet you don't want a whole pen of cattle running out. Do any of you do something different in your yard? How about a well-trained dog?
