Fuels tax credit, Form 4136

Trying to finish my tax return this weekend....

Do you guys usually claim a credit for tax paid on diesel using IRS Form 4136?

Why does line 3e specifically ask if the fuels use was after Sept 30, 2005? Is the credit only available if the fuel was purchased in the 4th quarter of 2005? Surely not...

What is the big distinction about "dyed" vs "undyed" diesel?

Don't know about the Sept. 30 2005 thing but diesel must be dyed to use as "farm fuel" here in Texas.

The tax rate probably changed as of 30 September. Off road diesel doesn't have the taxes on it.

The tax rate for milege was adjusted up from Sept 30th to Dec 31st. This was in response to the jump in fuel/gas prices.

It was changed again at the first of the year for 2006.
