fort davis tx

i want to take my family to fort davis for a weekend.
has anyone been there that can tell where or where not to stay ?
things to do, places to go and see, restaurants, activities and etc ?

Been there a few times but most recent was 3 years ago. Nice small town, great climate. You can visit the original old Fort Davis, ride out to Ft. Davis State Park (It has a nice motel). McDonald Observatory is up in the Davis mountains and nice to visit. You're not that far from Big Bend either. You might even drive down to Marfa and look for the "Marfa Lights" at night.

I used to live in San Angelo, so we took a weekend camping trip out at Ft Davis back in 2005. It is a nice little drive down, and we stopped at balmoreah for a couple hours--not much to see or do there cept swim with the catfish. Ft Davis is small but nice. The food there was kinda pricey IMO, but I'm cheap. Take the drive up around sawtooth, and see the observatory. We did as TexasBred suggests to you--went down to Marfa to see the lights. I was a lifelong skeptic--but not any more.
Gawd but I miss that part of Texas..........
