For you red angus folk

I like the few Cheyennes that I have seen. How were the dispositions on both sets of cattle. How did you like the Major Leagues :P

Where did you see them?

They were at Parkers.

There was only one Major League calf. He was a really nice calf, but that's the first one I have seen in person, and it's nice to see a pen full of them.

They had an abundance of Cheyennes and Combinations. I think I liked the Cheyennes better than the Combinations....and of course there were some nice Cherokee Canyons. There were several CC that had their ears completely froze off when they were newborns. Are they dok'd at all for "no ear" at all?

I took off on Friday to go bull looking. I spent about 2 hours in the pens. Good for the soul!

One of the best animals that I saw was a Combination...he was a bit restless...didn't want me anywhere near him.

They seemed more docile than the combination's, but it might have just been the individuals that I saw. They were in fairly large pens.

Ollie,
Can you get some hybrid vigor from an outcross sire like Combination? He's got black hided bulls for maternal and paternal grandsires.

I saw one ML and he did drop off behind the shoulders just a bit...not much though. The Combinations had a better top line...as did the Cheyennes.

I guess there is no reason for me not to continue to show my ignorance so I'll answer off the cuff. I believe the more different the pedigree , the more hybrid vigor . Even within the same breed.

I agree whole heartedly-about the hybrid vigor, at least.

why would you want some black in the wood pile of red angus , they are supposed to be toughher than black. thought about crossing some in but if they are going back toward black , maybe i should think again

angus is angus... red or black have the same basic traits and one isn't any "tougher" than the other... the only difference is the color, and Red Angus association allows the use of black animals on the cows to broaden the gene pool.

You are right again. If a person is going to make statemwents about breeds they should have their facts straight.
Red Angus and Black Angus started from the same cattle in the same herd. Mr. Watson preferred the black color so that is what he went with to form the breed. He started to cull out the cattle with the red color and keep the blacks.

Now dunitall don't try to argue with this one either.

I would be afraid of you too with all those pages of the sire summary blowing around in the wind trying to find the best ones. :D
