Foot Rot

Help Support CattleToday:

oxytetracycline (ie LA 200) still works well on FR and is cheap to use. Other long-acting drugs you could use are Excede, Nuflor and Draxxin but they can get VERY expensive to use on a cow or bull. If oxy does not improve their foot in 24 hrs, then you likely aren't dealing with FR.

If an animal is high headed, maybe it gets cuts on its feet from not paying attention & just bolting, but stress doesn't CAUSE it. I do believe stress can make anything WORSE.

I think all hooves are cracked or bruised when they come off the truck. Just the high headed animals come down with FR after standing on "clean" cement for 3 to 5 days.

CB, have you ever seen anybody put clorox in a pond/tank where cattle stand? Have a guy here that does it and swears by it.

That has never crossed my mind due to I like to eat my catfish.
But I see no reason it wouldn't work if you got the percentage right.

CB - I'm with you - fish would NOT like Clorox! you would have a pond full of dead fish.
We raise Channel Catfish - LOVE to catch them & eat them. Caught a 6.5 # & 7# last week. They do fight. But, we never let cattle drink out of our ponds.
