Cattle industry wants marketing of Florida beef
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (AP) — Florida cattle officials are asking the Legislature to create a marketing program that could raise up to $900,000 annually to promote beef consumption and research in the state.
The effort is called the "Beef Checkoff Program," after the 30-year-old national effort of the same name. The Ledger reports that the Florida version also would raise money through a $1 assessment on the sale of every head of cattle.

If approved by the Legislature, which begins its annual 60-day session March 3, and the governor, Florida cattle ranchers also must consent to the program by a majority vote in a referendum to be held within 6 months of its enactment.

It's BS and you going to pay it, like it or not. It passed here in Ga last year. And the first thing the GCA did was remodeled the kitchen at the office in Macon. It's just making a job for a few select folks. I haven't seen any benefits yet, and doubt I will. The government doesn't have the right to take a dollar each time a cow is sold. And then give some of the money to a private business.

The only way to get around paying is to sell private tready. The sale barn is required to take the money out of your check. The real kicker is each time the cow is sold a dollar is supposed to go to the beef check off.

We have both the state and national check off here. I would rather pay the state check off than the national check off. Not sure what either check off does.
The U.S. slaughters more than 500,000 head of cattle each week. Each head generates $1 every time it is sold. The farmer, stocker and feedlot each pay $1 on the same animal. That means we pay more than $1.5 million each week to the USDA for the beef check off.

Aw come on highgrit!!! USDA wouldn't waste your $$$$. They are all just looking out for our best interest. You know, just like NMFS, NOAA, COAST GAURD, HOMELAND SECURITY, FDA, EPA, CORP of ENGINEERS..........
