Finishing a heifer vs a steer

I've got a heifer that isn't selling as a breeder that I'm going to feed out and sell as freezer beef. Any difference in feeding her out versus a steer? I might butcher her in December at 18 months so I don't have to feed her through the winter.

The heifers generally finish faster with a touch more fat in my experience. Dont get quite as big as steer counterparts either. Fine eating either way though.

Feed her just like you would a steer.

Interesting that heifers would finish faster. I assumed just the opposite due to their smaller size. If that's the case I won't think twice about removing her from the herd in December. Thanks!

Females don't grow as big as males, therefore they put on fat faster. Build up the grain amount to 2.5 to 3% of body weight, yes, plus hay.

2-4 weeks faster than their brothers, but many in smaller feeding operations might not even notice or realize it.
