I notice the piece has a lanyard ring. I have never been able to figure out what the ring and lanyard are for except getting in the way.

The 92F is identical to the M9 that the military uses. I guess the Generals were afraid some butter bars Lieutenant my drop it so the needed a way to tether it to him.
