Branxchar, do you run bulls with cows year round?

Short answer, yes. Might try something this next year.

branx, I ask because I believe your cows are benefiting from a phenomenon called “bio-stimulation”. Your cows are exposed to bulls from the day they calve. In a controlled breeding system, the first cows to calve wait +/- 85 days to be exposed to bulls. The early exposure is said to decrease days postpartum. I believe this to be the case. @anewcomer you are correct. But, if you want a controlled CALVING SEASON, you cannot have this benefit. I keep a 60 day calving season and don't have any trouble with cows coming back into heat. I keep track of their heats after calving and before breeding dates. "Most" cows come back in heat in 30-40 days. If they were at the end of my 60 day calving season, and come back in at 30 days, I will skip that heat and Lutalyse them to breed on their 2nd heat (AI)

Pretty interesting. I had a more tight calving window but bull went bad in this pasture and ended up with a sizeable gap as you can see.
