Fence Charger

I have a Gallagher Bev 3 fence charger. Very good charger. I am thinking about building a small housing to hold it with a 12 volt car battery, Inverter and the charger. There would be a solar panel on the housing. The charger only draws 8 watts. Question would this work. It is 110 ac.

It should work. The biggest thing will be size of battery (amp hours). How many amp hours is the battery that you would use?

Example, 200 amp hour battery and a 8W load would have 250 hours of run time.


The other factor would be size of solar panel. You will want something larger than 8W, that way you have some excess charge for what the charger is drawing. You will want a diode on the solar panel as a solar panel will draw down a battery at night.
