Anyone hear about any rumors about plastic coffins dispersed around the US?

Good point. I don't think it has anything to do with swine flu or a revolutionary war. I am thinking there are issues with ground water but I am only speculating.
 
Coffins washing out of the ground is a genuine concern in severe flooding. Anybody remember the 1993 floods, national news coverage of a cemetary that got washed out? It was in a tiny town near here called Hardin. The older graves without vaults were the most vulnerable. Some remains were never recovered. The water was rushing because a nearby levee had given way and it had enough force to wash away the soil and it just excavated that cemetary.
