I have 4 cows whose calves I weaned about a month ago. I am now trying to build up their conditioning before they calve again. They are getting all the Sudan hay they can eat, along with 5lbs of sweet feed and about 1lb of range cubes a day. I haven't really noticed any improvement in their conditioning in the past month. I would put their score around a 4 or 5. (backbone and ribs not showing, but hip bones are sticking out).

What would be the best way to continue feeding? Should I go with a different type of hay? Or increase daily grain? What about a protein tub?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

your doing ok with the cows.an their body is prolly improving.the thing is you just cant see it.i have a cow that weaned on 2 heavy bull calves back to back.an she is thinner than id like.but she is eating real good coastal hay an running on pasture.an she gets feed when the other cows do.

If the cows don't have parasites they should do good on that ration. A lick tub would be a good idea.
