Can you fatten out a steer on pearl millet? He is a charolais X and weighs about 1100 lbs. and he will be on the millet and some bahia for a total of 90 days. How will he taste?

Don't know what it would taste like eating that stuff, never tried it. We always use grass hay and corn. I would think that it would give the meat a funny taste. Maybe others will weigh in on this matter.

No clue - our's have either been finished on straight grass or on corn. Sorry.

It is difficult to fatten a Continential steer on grass, but I have some shorthorn cross heifers that are really fat and sassy on forage. A lean grass feed animal will have less "taste" due to less fat. Kind of like eating elk.

I would either buy an English breed heifer, buy some corn for the Charolais X steer to increase his ADG, or have the butcher add tallow to the hamburger.
