Feed Troughs from Skidder Tires

Help Support CattleToday:

We use to split up to truck tire sizes. Would take a pretty good machine to split offroad stuff (or a lot of time), but I have seen them around. You might want to mention A2 tires as well. Sounds like a good idea, if they drain well.

I have split large tractor tires down the middle in a jiffy with a chainsaw. While they are somewhat shallow, they do make good troughs for chickens or water/feed troughs for hogs.

I use combine tires, I don't cut them in half. I cut out the sidewall down to the first diamond tread using a sawzall. Then take and cut out every other diamond tread so they aren't quite so tall. The then take a hole saw and cut three holes for the water to drain. Put some plywood in the bottom with a set of skids and that way I can drag them around the pasture spreading the manure.
