Feed Lots

Can someone explain just how you go about consigning a crop of calves to a feedlot. How many calves (600-750 lbs) are needed to make it practical? I hate selling 25 nice angus/brangus calves every year to the same few buyers for not enough money. What is the use of raising quality calves if I don't see the results?

Many states have a retained ownship program to encourage smaller producers collect feed and carcass data on their calves. Here in Oklahoma it's called the OK Steer Feedout. In Texas they call it Ranch to Rail. The extension programs run them. Check with your extension people and see if there's one in your state. Good luck...
