If you use your cattle trailer to haul cattle to and from a market for your own farm/purposes, then it's ok to still use the Farm Use plate from the Co-Op. If you haul for other people or use it to generate income in any other way, then you need to purchase the permanent trailer tag and get it inspected.

(If I go to get a farm placard what does DMV need to prove the farm purpose, I will have to make three trip to get it done like every other government BS they put on us.) It all boils down to money. They want you to register everything so you can pay taxes every year while they waste it. The $15 placard it just BS to get you to register every trailer, RTV etc. to get more tax money. I agree with Kenny on the daily driver vehicles they need to register, pay taxes and insurance or put them off the road. If you can run all over J-gool as high as gas, is you can pay like everybody else. Unreal how many almost new vehicles around here sporting Coop Farm Tags on the road.

If you use your flatbed to just haul your equipment/tractors do you need to register and get a placard?
Per my interpretation, "No". As long as you are within 75 miles of your land (used to be 30 miles) and within state lines, a Farm Use tag from the Co-Op will be sufficient.

Here lies the problem. DMV told me i need the perminate license on my cattle trailer. I dont haul for a profit. I didn't even ask about the other trailers
I am pretty familiar with 3 local State Troopers, and one was wanting the training to inspect these. I will ask when I run into one their interpatation.

Exactly. A majority of the DMV employees are not familiar with the laws concerning agriculture, and an alarming percentage of law enforcement isn't as well. Similar to whether it's ok to use dyed off road diesel in "Farm Use" vehicles, you get 5 different answers if you ask 5 different people - so I printed off the regs and put a copy in each Farm Use truck.

It cost me $2014 when i used red fuel it in my dodge. It was sitting in a parking lot with the transmission out. The DOT trooper told me i could go to court and contest it but they would take my drivers license if it wasn't paid within 30 days.

Found out something new this morning about this license plate.
DMV said the restriction on it is i cannot use it for anything that is not farm related. There is no mileage restrictions for it though. So i could and have drove it to South Carolina to look at a bull but cant drive it 1 mile to the Dollar Store.
Also they said the license plate was 1/2 price but the county will tax it as business use. If i put a normal license plate on it i am restricted to 10,000lb total. Truck weights 7800 i think. So a ton of feed and 4 bags of salt is my limit if they ever checked it.

Even if an officer isn't sure, it proves you were trying to follow the law.
I'd trust Code of Va over just someone's idea of what it says.

Code of Va 46.2-665 Paragraph B Looks like anything over 7500 GVWR keeps using the old system. For hire/material gain would need a tag,I guess.

I know it's like a lot of things. An annoyance for those who were doing what they should.
I, personally, am glad they are doing this. It will mostly put a stop to use by homeowners hauling things and not buying licence plates or insurance. Won't stop all but give more "probable cause" to stop.
I'm glad they didn't require everything to be fully licenced. Major expense for trucks/trailers only used a few times per year to haul to market.

Not WV but im in TN every week. Sometimes in KY weekly also.
The Farm Vehicle tag can supposedly be used for "limited non-farm use", and even Farm Use tags can be used for basic necessities (grocery store, church, etc) if it's your only vehicle.
You can get a regular Commercial Truck tag with a GVW well over 10k, it's almost exactly twice the cost of the Farm Vehicle tag but carries no restrictions on personal use.
And what plate did you have on your Dodge with the red fuel in it? It's perfectly legal to run in Farm Use vehicles.
