I posted this on Agri-ville.com, and copied it over here. There's a few Canucks on here I'd like to hear from, and anybody- on any side of the border- please feel free to give your opinion. There's an election coming up, and I'm a little disgusted after hearing this on the radio:

I heard of an older couple (70-plus) being charged with selling uninspected beef from their farm the other day on the radio. To me, that is an absolute crock. What the hell is this country coming to, when two MEN, who choose to live together, can marry and have legal rights accordingly, but it is AGAINST THE LAW FOR A FARM FAMILY TO SELL FARM FRESH MEAT TO A NEIGHBOUR! It is also illegal in this backwards nation, to GIVE fresh milk to your neighbour, let alone sell it!!

I know I'm too young to recite memories, but alot of you are 'experienced' enough to remember the days when creameries, butcher shops, and dairies were the heart of every community. There was a time when towns were not started or expanded without careful consideration given to where the dairy animals would graze. And here we are, in our modern, 'civilized' world where everything is supposed to be so advanced, and we've made it illegal to share the most nutritious food on earth.

I want all of you to think about some things when you're watching the election campaign trails in the next few weeks. Think about the big DAYCARE DEBATE....Harper and Martin and Layton are flinging mud about giving families more money to help with the cost of daycare. Is anyone considering helping families afford to live a little easier so that both parents aren't working 12 hour days and having their kids raised by someone in DAYCARE?

Think about healthcare. Think about the gun registry. Think about cost of living and taxes. Go ahead and ask your MLA or MP why governments lose money, but no politicians ever get a paycut? If we as workers/farmers perform poorly and don't show results, are we not punished in some way? Does the same apply for politicians? NO!!

When you put some thought into some of these issues, you'll realize that the gov't wants everyone to work with the system, for the system. So who can change that but US! Take a look at your options when you cast your ballot. Ask your candidates what they'll do about some of these things. I'm damn tired of seeing people make more money than they'll DESERVE in 10 lifetimes, and all the while the future for my children looks tougher and tougher with each passing year and election.

SO, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?? :?: :?: :?:

Tell me what you think, I'm all ears. But honestly, the GREEN party and/or Western Separation sound the best to me so far.

Is the Canadian Green Party similar to the US Green Party.

What is the Western Seperation Party. Is it Western Canadian conseveratives wanting to seceed from the eastern liberals.

First you hit the nail on the head with most of what you said.
You have only one choice now and that is Conseverative. The US has it right with only two parties. The whole reason that we have had to put up with these Lib quacks is because we have to many little parties with their own little ideas and the vote gets to spread out. If people had only two to chose from the bloody libs would have been out in 2004! How can the Canadian people sleep at night when we are told straight out that our gov. stole from us. We say O well and vote them right back in. I makes me sick to see the lack of ball showen by most of the men in our country. I blame the men of Canada for what has been happening. Women in our country wear the pants and that is a fact! How did we get abortion, how did we get gay marriage, how did we lose many of our hunting rights, how did we get gun reg. and now trying to banned hand guns all together. How did we get affirmative action? I truly hope that people will wake up one day and say stop enough is enough.

Bah, we don't have any real choices. The parties spend 2 months wowing us with promises, then when they finally get into power, they spend a couple more months delivering on the cheaper promises, spend another 6 months telling us the other promises will eventually be fullfilled, 3 years doing absolutely nothing, 2 more months saying that their earlier promises will be fullfilled, if only they had another 4 years in office.

Its garbage, pure and simple. Its time for a new political process where only elected representatives have a voice in parliament, and those elected reps can be non-confidenced by the people at ANY time. Each province should also be equally represented.

And the MLAs and MPs do indeed deserve a paycut. They work 6 months of the year and earn $70-80,000, plus benefits, and after 4 years they get to retire with a $40K/yr pension? Complete garbage.

Farm family income?! Now that's a pretty huge misnomer in itself, isn't it? (Not that I'm bitter about being left to hang and dry by the powers that be for the last couple of years).

It just seems that one crook replaces another in office, and I personally feel that it's all smoke and mirrors.

The 'average' Canadian doesn't count for diddley squat in Ottawa...only big business, as that's what scratches the politicians backs.

For example, look at how the elderly are treated. These are folks from all walks of life, who contributed their prime productive years to building the infrastructure and economy of our 'home and native land', and what thanks do they get?
Cat food for dinner and heating their apartment with the oven door open on their stove because they can't afford proper groceries or to heat their home with the natural gas that is in such abundance in their own country.

Why?
Because perhaps they were never in a situation to save money for their retirement.

Meanwhile, the politicians fly in private jets and give themselves pension hikes.

As far as this latest election is concerned, bah humbug.

Enough politics.

Take care.

I am all for Western Seperation. I am tired of the East voting in the Liberals and us paying for them! I am with you on that.

I thought Harper is planning to give $1200 for all children under six, not just the ones in daycare - unlike the Martin govt. who will only pay if you agree to have your child indoctrinated by the socialists. Am I wrong in what I heard?

I hate to say I can't agree with you about the uninspected beef though. I will probably get trashed for this but I like that all meat has to be inspected here before it is sold. All we need is someone who doesn't know or doesn't care to do something which causes someone else to get sick from eating beef to blow up our industry. Too many mistakes and we'd pay for it. Not worth the risk to me.

No you heard right. If you chose to take care of your own children the Martin govt. will not help you. If you put them in daycare the gov. will not only help out but now you can have a two person income home.

So take care of your children and you have one income and no 1200 per child. Let the gov. take care of them and you have two incomes plus gov. aid.
So much for family values eh?

Victoria, when it comes to selling beef or anything off the farm, if you get an uneasy feeling about how clean the farmer/rancher keeps their place, don't buy. It should be no different than going around buying cars and trucks. Go to the farmer/rancher, and see their facility. If it reassures you that you are going to get a safe product, great. We should at least have that FREEDOM, instead of being controlled and told what we can and cannot do.JMO

This is 100% the way things should be.

It is sad, just plain sad.

Hi purecountry, trucks and cars are different to me than food. I don't know if I can explain this right. I am not for government control but I do like to know that things are safe not just for the person getting the meat but also for the industry as a whole. The cattle industry does not need any cases coming out of either bad slaughtering practises or unhealthy meat. Sometimes you can't tell what is safe and what isn't by how it looks.
What I really don't get is how the couple was caught (I haven't heard the story)? If I sold meat to my neighbour that wasn't inspected how would the government know?

I actually like Stephen harper quite a bit as leader. Of course he'll never get in because he's from the west and it just wouldn't do to have someone as Prime Minister who wasn't from Quebec or Ontario. He's got a good platform and some very economically sound ideas. But of course he'll be demonized because of where he's from. The problem with voting for the western Separatist party is that all it does is takes votes away from the Conservatives, just like the Reform party did and haven't we really had enough of the Liberal government to do us for this lifetime. Did you see Paul Martin sidling up to Slick Willie today. Talking about the 'evil' Americans. That's not going to help trade relations too much. The man is an idiot.

You know besides the fact the Liberals have destroyed families, marriage, and are against anything Christian the thing that bothers me most is their animosity to the US. Personally I don't think the Americans are evil and I think the majority of Canadians agree with me but even if Martin does believe that wouldn't it be more intelligent to not say it since the US is our biggest trading partner? Is the guy an idiot or is he purposely out to destroy Canada, especially the west?

If this country was run by the grassroots folks that keep the gears turning, you wouldn't see some jack@$$ talking down to the US. Hell, most times I think we in the West were cut from the same cloth as most of those from the South. Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, you do your thing, I'll do mine, do unto others as you would have them do unto you, etc., etc.!!

I don't know if it's the fact that some folks in this friggin country have never had to fight for what they have, or earn it period, but there could be a day comin' when they have to.

Here is a lifelong Kentuckian who identifies very much with the sentiments being expressed on this thread by weastern Canadians, people i have never met but have come to enjoy knowing through their comments on this board.
