Watched parts of this on Superior... While I was watching the commercial bred heifers/cows were going for around $2500...
With the way futures look for cattle through 2017 anybody pays that kind of prices, the cattle business is a hobby to them. All I can say is when they sell they will have a good tax write off on the loses side. I wish I had a neighbor that would buy one of the bulls and cows, so I can buy the calf in a year or two for $1.25. :lol2:

I can't make $2500 bred heifer or cow pencil out. I will keep my own heifers, I think I end up with a lot less in them.

I went to a stock cow sale yesterday. I was there for almost 3 hours and they just got through the fall pairs and the bred heifers so I don't know what bred cows went for. My guess is there were 1,500 to 1,800 cows there. But nice big shiny 1,200 pound February calving angus heifers went for $2,200-2,100. Late calving and heifers under 1,000 pounds and the market dropped off considerably. There were some 850 pound bred heifers that got PO'ed at $1,200. These were mostly lots of 15-30 head.

Always a crap shoot - - but late calving heifers were my best buys this spring.

There was a set of 30 or 40 nice heifers all bred AI to calf April 15 to May 30 that brought about $1,500.
