FALL already ?????

Fall decided it didn't want to stay for too long... back to 90 today, and supposed to be middle 90's the next several days. Ground is terribly dry again... have to put soaker hoses back out on the green beans getting ready to bloom and the winter squash plants as the leaves are wilting... got lots of butternut and striped crenshaw squash that I want to grow and develop some more...

It cooled and rained 1 1/2" here but it's back to Indian Summer.
I wonder where that term came from.
Supposedly "Indian Summer" originated during the colonial period when settlers thought they were safe from attack because of cooler weather. The second warm up provided weather for the Natives to attack again.
That's just one story. Another has to do with them using this time to gather crops or hunt. Their are other ideas.

This 1 and a quarter inch we got last week in SW Oregon was the most rain in August in history. Before this the ranchers and farmers who had drought insurance were fixing to get some cash on their policies. Now, because of this piddly amount of rain they have to pay. The ranch across the road has to pay $800. The dairy where I got my bottle heifers has to pay $100,000 I hear.

We haven't had rain in awhile and it has been in the 90's for some time now. Pastures are pretty much burnt up and the ground is like concrete. It is not looking good here..

You can keep your wildfires but you can send that cool air my way!

I think the hummingbird migration has started. We have had a pair of resident hummingbirds all summer but for a week now, I am seeing 3,4 and 5 ganged up on or fighting around the feeder.

It has been right around 40 this morning and the last 2 mornings. But the weather guessers are saying a high of 98 today and 99 tomorrow. I love the 40 degree mornings. I hate the upper 90 degree days.

Our oats and barley crop will be harvested earlier than last year. Much harvest is the same up here. Fog is already a morning ritual. Cattle are "hairing" up. Leaves getting that dull lack luster look before they turn gold. Snow has already capped the higher elevations. Frost warning last week. Flowers tiring. End of August and feels mid to end of September. I agree weird year all ways round but fall has descended early even if we have one last heat wave.🍂🍁🍃

Where are you @MrChevy ???? State???
It was 64 overnight, not supposed to hit over 80 today... We had 1.3 inches rain last evening/night... very welcome.... Rain again this afternoon/eve... really helping to put some ground water back after the severe drought early this summer.

I know that members up in the northern tiers are used to chillier weather even in summer... BUT... we were down to 49 last night... It was chilly yesterday and even more so this morning... NO humidity so clear and "crisp"... Sun was out and light breeze and a NICE 77 during the day... and then we are supposed to go back up into the low 90's for the weekend...

Just was not expecting it to be so "cool" out there already..

Also, can someone help me find that picture with the statement about the cows names on the container of yogurt ( or milk maybe).... and the post how it was misogynistic for all the names listed to be female.... I went back through the daily chuckle and a couple other threads and cannot find it... I know some of you have better memories than I do . Want to show it to a friend of mine...

It does seem very early this year... We took a trip to see my daughter and fam last week and we had a 45 degree morning east of Carson City, Nv... in August.

And yeah, the hummingbird migration is in full swing. We have maybe eight/ten resident birds and now we are getting 60 (?) at a time. Filling seven feeders twice a day.

The season is changing. I now have to put on a jacket when going out to change water in the morning. The last several days it has been in the low 40's when I got up, today it was 50.
