F1's & F2's

F1 is the first generation of crossing two seperate breeds, i.e. Angus X Hereford. F2 is the result of breeding the same F1's to identical F1's, i.e. Angus X Hereford = F1 Angus-Hereford X Angus-Hereford = F2. Two F2's bred to each other generate F3's, etc
