We were wondering why our cow got a very large milk bag just before she had a calf and after the bag was so large it hung all the way down to the ground. When we tried to milk her, the milk was bloody.

Either she had severe mastitis or if the udder is very large, she may have stepped on a teat or bruised the udder . Some very heavy milking cows have pendulous udders, it's in the genes.

Sometimes the blood is caused by nothing more than a few broken capillaries, caused by the pressure of so much milk. It's very common for Jerseys (and other dairy cattle) to have bloody milk for the first several days after freshening, especially if they have pendelous udders.
