Longhorns are known for being easy breeders, highly fertile, excellent milkers and mamas, etc.
Every one of our Longhorn cows and 1st calf heifers produce a calf. We even had 2 of our "middle aged" cows have 2 calves each during 2006. First one in January, second one in December.
For 2006 our "calving rate" was about 110%. Our females usually breed back on their first post-calving heat or shortly thereafter on next heat.
1st calf heifers are put with a bull at 13-14 months of age to have a healthy calf on the ground by 2 years of age.
