Old rancher I worked for said his wife traded off a 2 year old filly in the spring one year. By fall that year and a number of trades later she had a dozen chickens. And the coyotes ate most of them. He said that he did kind of like that filly.
 
I think a large part of it may have been the fact that she was explicitly marketing it all. Not sure about the guy who traded a paperclip for a house, but I think a lot of it was the novelty of the endeavor. Hard to believe though that someone would trade an Apple TV for an old snowboard...

I guess there really is a buyer for everything. :)
