The government has been putting IOU's in that box since LBJ.
Take that back Ike bailed out the Post Office first with it.

I scary part, the part that adds insult to injury is the fact approximately 47% of the debt held by the public.


We own it twice. That does not include what some of our pension funds (those of us lucky enough to have a pension) own the national debt.

Some of us own it three times.

Operates much like your local bank. You pay off a note, the immediately lend the money to someone else. You redeem a treasury note, they pay you off and issue another that someone else or maybe even you may buy. Just different yield and maturity. Nothing but electronic transactions. SS is actually being smart by investing in U.S. debt. (and all this time you thought the gov't was robbing the SS fund). :lol2: :lol2:
