I'm coming into this late, but the Angus Assn requires DNA from any bull being used AI or any cow that will be flushed. But the calves do not have to be tested to be registered.

The only things that keep a person from cheating are honesty and fear. I do think most breeders are honest and most cheaters are scared of being caught.

People do make mistakes, too. Fishing out semen in the dark, with a flashlight between your teeth, it's not impossible to get hold of the wrong straw. Some people are more careful than others.

Know the people you're buying cattle from, at least their reputation. My advice is not to chase the hot bloodlines. Instead of spending $3,000 on a heifer from a "hot" bull, I'd be more likely to buy two $1500 heifers from proven bloodlines.

Solid words.

Have a funny one for you - my screw up.

Fishing in buddies tank - late at night - breeding a couple of Herfs. One of them mine.

Was planning on using - a Domino bull - ended up witha LH/HH cross!

Not funny when we noticed - but we laugh about it now.

I have to admit it tasted darned good!

Bez!
