For several years we have used Deliver a electrolyte that gels. Really had good luck with it, seemed to help with calves on getting scours under control. No one has it now and can't get it. Any other similar products around that you have used?

Tom,
You can just get some generic psyllium powder (same stuff as Metamucil) and mix an adult human dose (1-2 Tbsp?) in with each feeding. It'll do the same deal - and it's cheap. I keep some on hand for that purpose, but it's been years since I've needed it.

Yes. If the affected calf really has scours - not just a loose stool, but actual diarrhea that threatens to cause dehydration and electrolyte imbalance - the gel will actually slow gut transit time, allowing the calf to absorb &/or retain more moisture - and *may* adsorb some pathogens, carrying them on through and out the back end.

Fairly common product around here that gels is called Arrest. Most of the major retailers carry it in 5 lb. bags and single doses.
