During bad thunder stoms our electric fence box gets hit by lighting. Does anyone know a way to fix this problem?

Yup - you can go to your local farm supply store and buy an lightening protector.

Basically it is a ceramic (usually) insulator with two electric connectors. The electric fence runs through one of the connectors. The other you attach to a ground wire and a ground rod. Lightening hits the fence - travels the wire towards the fencer and arcs across the space on the protector - going directly to ground. Remainder of power hits the fuse in the fencer - blows the fuse and stops there.

Place this as per directions on the box at least 20 yards upstream from the fencer. It works about 70% of the time.

Rest of the time you buy new fencers. We always have a couple of spares on hand.

well it could be an easy fix . it could just be cynaniod you can pop them out an change them. or if that dont fix prob your fenhce charger is blowed an you need a new 1 . id just buy a new charger .

As stated above the lightning arresters work some of the time. I always tell people you can limit mother nature but you can never control her.

Most tv repairmen can fix a fence charger..... the guy in our area does the service for Buchheits stores and I had an electric fence charger hit by lightening and it was $10.00 to get it fixed just like new.....

Depends on what got fried. If it was fixed for $10.00 it was probally only a blown internal fuse. Most of the parts inside are off the shelf type parts. But its like tv repair jobs. Most of the time its cheaper to get a new tv than have one repaired. The parts are cheap but the labor will eat you a new one.
